What is a Webinar?
Short for ‘web-based-seminar’, webinars are presentations, workshops, seminars, conferences or meetings that are transmitted in real-time (live) over the internet. A key feature of webinars is their interactivity - the ability to give, to receive, and to discuss information.


Think about a webinar in terms of ‘radio with pictures’ via a computer and a way to connect with any number of people from 1 to 1,000, based anywhere in the world – all without you or them having to leave the office or home.


Webinars offer exceptional reach and convenience for both internal and external marketing and communications, and are very cost-effective.


Who Can Present or Attend a Webinar?

Virtually anyone that has a computer, an internet connection, and either VOIP* or a telephone, can present or attend a Webinar hearing the presenter speak and also seeing their presentation real time.


*VOIP, short for ‘voice over internet protocol’ is real-time audio communication through a computer via use of headphones/ speakers and microphone.


Webinar attendees are able to view anything that is visible on the presenter’s desktop, allowing the presenter to demonstrate software, web pages and the like, as well as using PowerPoint slides for the visual component of the presentation. Live video streaming is not recommended because of bandwidth constraints.
